What are the image rules for Google action cards?

This topic shows the rules for images on Google devices.

Google Play Store icons

  • 32-bit PNG (with alpha)

  • Dimensions: 512 by 512

  • Maximum file size: 1024 KB

Theme rules

  • Theme. Customize the appearance of your Actions to highlight your brand identity to users. After customizing the theme, save your changes and test them out in the Simulator.

  • Background color. Applies to the background of your Action's cards. Use a light-themed color like FAFAFA to provide good contrast with the primary color.

  • Primary color. Applies to header texts such as card titles, and other UI components like buttons. Use a dark-themed color like 101010 to provide good contrast with the background color.

  • Font Family. Applies to primary texts in Action cards such as card titles.

  • Image corner style. Applies to all the images used in Action cards.

  • Background image. Customize the background of action cards. If the background image is used in Action cards, Google automatically sets the primary colors to white.

    • Landscape mode. Minimum 1920 x 1200

    • Portrait mode. Minimum 1200 x 1920.

    • Small logo. 192 x 192

Android device menu icons

To indicate the recommended size for the icon, each example in Figure 1 includes three different guide rectangles:

  • Full Asset. The outermost (red) box is the bounding box for the full asset.

  • Icon. The middlemost (blue) box is the recommended bounding box for the actual icon. The icon box is sized smaller than the full asset box to allow for varying icon shapes while maintaining a consistent visual weight.

  • Square icon. The innermost (orange) box is the recommended bounding box for the actual icon when the content is square. The box for square icons is smaller than that for other icons to establish a consistent visual weight across the two types.
