How to export data from Insights

Often times you want to take the insights data and use it for further analysis using MS Excel or other analytics tools.

The Discover page in Insights does not have an option to download the data. However, you can create a Data Table visualization for the same search query and download the data in the .csv format.

Discover

For example, you want to check the Answers feedback data that is captured in insights.

  1. You will go to Insights > Discover and then choose the data-<environment>-backend.answers_feedback index pattern.

  2. Choose the columns that you want to view in the table form.
You can do it in one of the two ways.

    1. Click on the add button against the field from the Available fields section.

    2. Expand a document and select the Table tab. Click on the Toggle column in table icon. It will be added to the table.

  3. You can see the data in a table form.
Note the selected fields section contains the column names.

Visualize

Follow the below steps to visualize the same data and get export it.

  1. Go to Visualization.

  2. Create a visualization. Refer, Guide to Orbita Insights | Visualize

  3. Choose the visualization type as Data Table.

  4. Select the saved search.

  5. You will land on the visualization page with the total count.

  6. Create buckets to split the data.
Click on Add and then click on Split rows

  7. Select terms from the Aggregation drop down.

  8. Select a field from the Field dropdown
Change the size (typically to populate the total number of rows of the table)
    Enable Show missing values.

  9. Click the Play icon at the top after configuring the required buckets to apply the changes.

  10. Click on the Raw button or Formatted button to download the data table you just created in .csv format.

  11. The data will be downloaded as a CSV file.
